Mika Ella’s Story
Mika Ella is a singer-songwriter and a poet in love with everything about the 80s.
She says: “The eighties were romantic – like poetry and music, optimistic and full of spirit, and from today’s perspective this beautiful dose of sadness is even more emphasized. The whole eighties were the years of my childhood and it was a wonderful period to grow up, in a completely different world. We who lived through that time, and those who did not, but heard about the eighties, spontaneously created a huge movement around the globe that would like the world to have that spirit of the eighties again, and since it does not, each of us travels through time to bring into this “now” the best of the 80s “now”. Yes, in a way, we all are Time Travelers!”
Mika Ella’s music career started in 1999 when she published her first single as the lead singer and co-writer of a dance music project called Matrix. Matrix released three albums and fifteen singles in Croatia, most of which topped the local charts and won festival awards. Seven singles were No.1 in the Croatian national chart at the time. She also had two singles released in Poland by Warner Music. She worked with her longtime partner in business and life, Chris Hurts, on all of their projects.
With her first band Matrix, she toured most of Croatia and Slovenia, but also Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

However, she always felt she should sing in English and share her talent and love for music and words with the whole world. “But sometimes, life takes you away from your dreams and you just need to survive through the hard times. When the right moment comes, life brings you back home. In my case, home is music. So after many years, I got back home, to music, singing, and writing”, she says.
Mika Ella loves variety, so as an author and performer she likes to dedicate herself to everything she enjoys. Her first singles are dedicated to the sound of the eighties, more precisely to the Disco sound of the decade (Italo and Euro).
Already with her first single “Take It Or Leave It”, she achieved exceptional success – her song was played on radio stations in Europe and South America. Her music, words, and voice color won over an audience eager for the sound of the 1980s. In a very short time, she gathered tens of thousands of retro sound fans on her Facebook and Instagram page. She has established herself as one of the leading female singer-songwriters of the eighties retro music.
With the second single “Free Like Amsterdam”, she repeated the success of the first. Her pilot single “The Girl With Golden Hair” came out in two versions, one of which revived the spirit of the Eurodisco style. Her 4th single “Last 2 Girls On The Dancefloor” was a duet with legendary disco legend Linda Jo Rizzo. Her fifth single “Never Let It Die” completes her first album in Italo Disco style, which will be sold in digital, but also in exclusive physical formats.
As she rounded out her first Italo Disco story, she will “tell” the new story through the more evolved style, combining 80s pop and disco sounds with today’s modern pop production.
Mika Ella also writes poetry, loves planting flowers, and loves animals. She has two adopted dogs, is a vegetarian and loves nature. People love her songs, her voice, her beautiful eyes, and her attitude and thoughts that she shares with her fans daily.
